?Please explain Evolution to me in simple terms
by Guest with Questions inand please dont give me links to read.
i dont want a complicated version; just a very simple explanation on the theory of evolution, and if possible, in your own words.
many of us are very ignorant on this subject and it seems that a few here are very knowledgeable so i hope you can help me and others also.. also if you believe in the theory of common descent, could you explain that to me also?

I know that this post is tongue in cheek but I sometimes find it difficult to figure out if someone is sarcastic or not. So..
Why don’t Australians fall off the earth? Why don’t Canadians fall off the earth? Gravity. As Stilla said "convention" states that Australia is south or "below". Man decided. None of us are upside down. If civilization started at the "South Pole" it may have been called "North Pole". Upside down, right side up, North, South, in relation to what?
At one time people did believe that the earth was flat and if you got too close they thought they would fall off and yet the bible did state that the earth was round? How, if the bible is made up by primitive men with beards, did these men know this fact?

Sammie: You may (or may not) want to read this:
http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/070706/health/health_china_unsafe_food
I found this site when I was looking up the toothpaste contamination scare a couple of weeks ago. I have never bought food or toothpaste at a dollar store and never will. I always wondered where it was actually manufactured. A couple of days ago a lady told me that well known manufacturers put lead in lipstick and fibreglass in mascara. This sounds too ludicrous to me, but could it be true? I mean there are health regulations in North America right?

The Colour Green / Am I just a cynic: Re Earth Day.
by Guest with Questions infirst, i want to state that i am not against protecting our planet and i think we all should do what we can to conserve and be more environmentally conscientious.. i dont have facts but this whole earth day concert doesnt seem to sit right with me.
is the green earth about the environment or is it about green money, are some environmentalists really green bigots or am i green with envy?
im sure there are many who are sincere but have they thought out what this event contributed to the pollution of the earth?

First, I want to state that I am not against protecting our planet and I think we all should do what we can to conserve and be more environmentally conscientious.
I don’t have facts but this whole Earth Day Concert doesn’t seem to sit right with me. Is the Green Earth about the Environment or is it about green money, are some environmentalists really green bigots or am I green with envy?
I’m sure there are many who are sincere but have they thought out what this event contributed to the pollution of the earth? Or does it just take a few tree plantings to compensate (carbon-neutral efforts?) for transporting all these acts to the events? Or did they fly hybrid planes?
I do believe that Al Gore is a hypocrite. He tells us to do one thing yet he does otherwise. Have you seen the writeups about his homes or are these false or unfair accusations.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/bush/house.asp
Does this sound familiar? A chosen few tell the masses what to do?
You look at Al Gore, at Madonna, at Sting (with his 7 homes) etc. They are telling us to cut back, conserve. Yet they live in these mansions, they fly all around the world, drive expensive cars, live excessive lives and yet they tell us to conserve. Apparently Barbra Streisand is telling us to air-dry our clothes, eat local produce. That is great, but is she doing it.
When I was young I probably would have thought this was a great thing and jump on the bandwagon. Am I just getting more cynical as I get older?
That reminds me: When Black-Eyed Peas were playing in London (yes I did sometimes watch it) I saw a sign on stage that read Good News. How much did it cost the Watchtower to pay for this ad? Just kidding!

Flipper: Just a quick note. Going out in a bit but will be back later. Here are some sites regarding the sex abuse cases. I wonder if it would be a copy-right infringement if we put these addresses on, say a leaflet 4 x 6". I have no problem doing it it if anyone can give suggestions. I also think the simpler the better. I did start a leaflet a while back. It was more aimed at the general public but I could make changes. On the back I could put these sites and the people can go to these sites on their own. Thread is below if anyone can use it.

You did a great job showing witnesses that x-witnesses (and Christians) can be very sincere and that many still read their bible, are informed, and are morally indignant when someone does something as despicable as child molestation. It used to upset me that the witnesses ignorantly or arrogantly believe that only they study and read the bible and try to do God’s will. I truly hope that this couple will think about what you said. I wish more people would speak out but I think that many don’t care or might not know enough to speak to them. I do have my reservations, but you never know, you may have planted a seed of doubt and if more people speak to them at the door, the more they may question the Org.
I had a young man with his 5 yr old daughter come to my door Sunday afternoon to invite me to the DC but I declined. We had a very long chat. Initially when I noticed a few of them walking down my street with young children, I was surprised that I was nervous. I had no intention of talking to him as I truly thought at the time I had nothing to say to him. In the end a lot was covered.
I mentioned the child molestation settlements in California and about Silent Lambs.
I asked who his Mediator was. He said the bible stated that it was Jesus but I had to tell him that it was not what the Org’s literature said, that Jesus was Mediator only for the 144,000, which surprised him. He asked who then was the Mediator for the Great Crowd and I told him that it was the Org. or GB.
I mentioned that the Org was a member of the UN during the 90's for about 10 yrs(?) which also surprised him, that Independent thinking was not allowed, about shunning. I mentioned Mouthy, but not by name; that I found it horrible that a person was disfellowshipped because she didn’t believe that Jesus came in 1914 and was then shunned by her daughter. He didn’t think that was right. I said a lot of families were torn apart.
I mentioned the NWT, asking if he knew who the translators were and why they weren’t mentioned. He, as usual, mentioned humility. I felt that if an accredited scholar showed his name it gave the reader confidence that they were reading a valid translation, that Fred Franz was the only one that knew a bit of Hebrew. Told him to look up translators of NWT on Internet but I doubt he will.
Mentioned 1975- that the Org did state in their literature that the end would most likely come in the fall of 1975-that it wasn’t just eager witnesses wanting the end. That the bible states if anyone prophesies in God’s name that something will happen and it doesn’t come true, he is a false prophet.
I told him that I wasn’t a tool of the devil, that I was a Christian, that it wasn’t to please me to seek the truth, but to do it for himself - do it for him and his children. I also asked if he felt that all clergy were of the devil and would be destroyed but he didn’t have an answer. I also told him to be careful; that if he questioned the Org that he could be disfellowshipped. He seemed to think that there shouldn’t be any problem questioning; to seek the truth.
His last sentence was that it did mention in the bible that Jesus was the Archangel. I asked him where, because I know that this isn’t mentioned anywhere in the bible. He then left.
In the end, because of what I experienced, and also Flipper, I wonder if the Org, knowing that more people outside of the org may becoming more informed, that it may be their tactic to allow people at the door to speak more freely, so that they would feel that the witnesses were more approachable, that they are becoming more mainstream. He seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say. I did have control of the conversation and that puzzled me, he didn’t retaliate. He just let me talk. I am a skeptic, but I do hope that I may have planted a seed of doubt.
I have considered keeping information handy by my front door in case someone comes to my door again. (documents of Child Abuse Cases, NGO, Silent Lambs, etc) The only thing I’m afraid of is that it will get back to my mother’s husband. I mentioned to this young man that I knew about the networking between all the congregations. One couple earlier this summer recognized me and knew my mother.
Sorry that this post is so long and has grammatical errors. Hope it’s readable.

Paradise NOT
by TJ - iAmCleared2Land inwell, now, i knew there was a good reason why i didn't want to live forever in paradise on earth:.
from the sept 1906 wt .
for instance, those who will constitute the church, and who will be changed from earthly to heavenly nature in the first resurrection--"changed in a moment" --will be spirit beings like unto our lord, and like unto the angels also in respect that they will be sexless.

and at the end of the thousand years be all of them in perfection, like Adam was before Eve was taken from his side.
This isn't the first time that I have noticed JW literature speaking derogatory against Eve, like she is the whole problem for mankind's sins.

Please put your JW heads back on for a moment... (Memorial Meal)
by AlphaOmega insomething has been bugging me for ages about the non-participation of r&f jws in the memorial meal (sounds like a mcdonalds deal) !.
i've just worked out what it is.... only the "anointed" can partake of the emblems.. but at the original meal, as instituted by jesus, no one was anointed.
the anointing came at pentecost, after he had died !.

I think that it is wrong to compare Jesus' Baptism and subsequent anointing
"Christ" being the Greek word meaning Messiah, the anointed one "Jesus Christ".
Jesus was the Christ or annointed one at birth.
Luke 2:11 Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you: he is Christ the Lord.
He did not become the Christ at his baptism.
